A ferramenta base foi desenvolvida pelo Laboratório de História Social (LHS) da Unversidade de Brasília, usando tecnologia do Ministério do Meio Ambiente, o software I3GEO. O LHS/UnB também produziu mapas base com informações de unidades urbanas e populacionais do período entre 1500 e 1800, além de outros bancos de dados de informações geográficas.
